Fancy Candles
A candle can be both useful and beautiful. There are many creative ways you can present it as DIY wedding favors. You can mold it into shapes, make gel candles or even try creating food shaped items with your candle wax. Though it may seem like a challenge at first, candle making is certainly something that you will enjoy.
What You Need:
Wick
Wick stabilizers
Essential oils of your choice
Candle dye
Molds or containers
Wax
Double sided tape
How to Do It:
- Assemble a wick on a wick stabilizer.
- Cut a small piece of double sided tape and stick this to the bottom of the stabilizer. Next, securely attach the stabilizer to the middle of your mold or container. Make sure they are well centered. Prepare all molds or containers in this manner before you get started with the melting process.
- Measure out or weigh the amount of wax that you need to fit into your molds or containers.
- Put your wax in a pot to melt. Make sure that you use apot that you don't use for cooking. Heat or melt you wax to about 180 ̊F.
- Once the wax has melted completely, add a few drops of your essential oil. A little goes a long way, so make sure that you use just a bit first then just add more if you are not happy with the scent you get.
- Add your candle dye at this time as well. You should also start out slowly by adding just a little bit then increasing the quantity until you are satisfied with the color that you have.
- Pour wax slowly into your containers and let them cool
Note: For gel candles you can follow the same process. As you finish pouring the gel, you can then insert the objects you want to suspend in the candle. Once they’re in, you can use a stick to move them to where you want them to be inside the gel.
Tips:
- Make use of clips to make sure that your wick stands straight. If you don’t have clips, straws will also do.
- To make sure that your candles adhere to your containers well and finish off nicely, heat the jars before putting in the wax.
- See to it that you put your wick right in the center of your container or mold. This is the best way to make sure that your candle will burn properly.
- When letting your candles cool, make sure they cool slowly. It helps to put the containers or molds close together. When they cool slowly, they cool more evenly.
- For smooth tops on your candles use a heat gun. If you don’t have one, use a blower.
