Enchanted Wedding Theme: Arabian Nights

The Arabian Nights were a series of fairytales or tales from the middle east. They are usually fantastic stories that have magic and superstition intertwined. Having an enchanted wedding wedding that follows an Arabian Nights can be really fun, and it may be appropriate if your family is of middle eastern descent.

If your family is of middle eastern descent, and you still follow the traditions of the middle east, the wedding ceremony will have certain rules and conventions that you will need to follow. If your family doesn't really practice these traditions, though, then the ceremony is up to you.

Having your wedding reception under a tent may be appropriate for this type of enchanted wedding theme. What would really set the mood, though is if you have everyone sit on Persian carpets instead of tables. Now this can be very costly, especially if you don't have the carpets on hand. You can choose to borrow carpets from friends, or see if you can find a store that will be willing to rent them out. If neither of these options yield results, then simply buy some thick velvet cloth at a cloth warehouse and ask them to cut it to the size of carpets. You can use several colors of velvet to make it more festive. Be sure to soften the carpets with matting or add pillows to each carpet setting.

At the center of each carpet, place low tables that people can eat off of. You may want to rent Japanese type tables (which are usually low) to place at the center. The tables should be simply decorated. A simple colored cloth or table runner, and a lot of candles here and there. The entire arrangement is décor on its own and so there is no need to overdo it.

When it comes to food, be sure to serve middle eastern favorites. These include pita breads, hummus, tabbouleh, falafal, and the like. For a main dish, serve a mutton stew or a tangine. Be sure you have a lot of bread and some wine to go with all of the food. Your cake can be a simple cake, maybe chocolate so that it goes with all the dark and rich colors you will surely be using!

Clothing the bridal party can be a tricky part of this wedding. Perhaps the men can dress in simple shirts with vests, and pants that are gartered at the end. The groom can wear a sultan's turban if he likes, and his best men can have fake swords at their waists. For the bridesmaids, Scheherezade inspired costumes are in order. These are billowy pants which are gartered at the end, a top that shows off their midriffs, and a sheer shawl to wrap around themselves.

The bride, on the other hand, can wear a long white skirt with gold coins or beads as a belt. She can wear a white, off shoulder top, and complete the look with a sheer veil that covers her nose and mouth, and leaves space only for her forehead and eyes. Her head should also be adorned with gold coins and beads or gold jewelry.

Finally, the music should be reminiscent of Arabian nights. Maybe you can find a sitar player. For your wedding favors, give each of your guests a bookmark with quotes from the different tales told in the Arabian nights.
