Enchanted Wedding Theme: Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien is sometimes used as an enchanted wedding theme by die hard fans. It is a theme that is often argued about in terms of category, whether it is a fairytale or enchanted theme or if it is a hobby or pop culture theme. No matter what category you feel it's best suited for, the fact remains that it has been used as a theme, and can lead to some interesting and fun wedding ceremonies.

First, the ceremony itself. Depending on which characters the fan likes best, the ceremony can be reminiscent of the hobbits, the dwarves, the humans, and most popularly the elves. Of course, you can opt for a more traditional ceremony since the only details that would make yours distinct from a traditional wedding ceremony are the clothes and decorations. If the venue for your ceremony doesn't allow excessive decorating, then you may want to save your LOTR flair for the reception.

Decorating a LOTR wedding will take a lot of creativity. The book series is not only epic and timeless, but there are also so many lovers of the series, which means an equal number of critics. The Elven wedding is the wedding most often mimicked because of the beauty and etherealness of the elves. It is known that this type of wedding will be similar to a medieval wedding, but the decorations will focus on gold and silver and a lot of bright and airy colors, just like the elves' home in the book.

The type of food served at an LOTR wedding is up to the bride and groom. However, in order to tie the theme in together, you may want to serve food that would be more believable  when it comes to your theme. For example, spicy Indian curries may not go well with an elven wedding. You can take advice from the medieval theme, or they can simply have continental food.

Similarly, the cake (inside) can be whatever the couple chooses, but the outside should be decorated appropriately. Hobbits would have liked a classic wedding cake decorated with flowers. Elves may have a classic cake with golden and silver hues. Dwarves would have a darker cake (perhaps rich chocolate) with deep bronze tones to the decorating. Finally, humans may have a regular cake or follow the type the elves would have.

To make the music appropriate, hire string instruments and wind instruments, a bagpiper if you can find them (especially for the hobbit wedding.) The music should be lively and happy, and dancing is definitely in order. Wedding favors should be something that will always remind everyone of the book and your wedding. Perhaps bookmarks with a saying from the book printed on it, and the date printed out underneath.

Finally, the clothes! This is the one thing that can truly make your LOTR wedding obvious when it comes to its theme. The inhabitants of Middle Earth all had their own style or flair, and so it is through this that you will be able to show the distinction. Hobbits would have dressed their men in simple brown suits, while the women wore white frilly sun dress like gowns. The elves, on the other hand, would have worn more medieval type clothes with intricate embroidery, and using golden or silver hues, all of which are perfect for an enchanted wedding theme!
