Finding Budget Wedding Gowns

Wedding dresses are very important. Though you will only wear them once, the symbol of the wedding dress holds so much history and tradition. Also, most brides want to look spectacular in their wedding dresses, knowing that they will only get to wear this once, and that they will remember the moment for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, wedding dresses are expensive, and many brides cringe when they realize how much they have to spend on just one dress. Luckily, there are ways to find some budget wedding gowns!

First, consider whether or not you have an old wedding dress, such as your mom's or grandmother's. You may choose to wear this dress. Many brides choose to wear their family wedding dresses as part of a tradition, and it's actually a nice gesture to carry on. Often, these dresses are very intricately done and have beautiful workmanship to it, which will make it stand out. Antique wedding dresses are always one of a kind, and it's seldom that you find one made the same way, unless you're willing to spend a lot of money to have one made, and most replicas, even the ready-to-wear type will usually cost a lot. Wearing an antique from your family won't cost you a cent! (Talk about budget wedding gowns!)

Your family may or may not let you alter your antique wedding dress. Alterations will usually cost very little, since you already have the dress and fabric, but it also means you will be changing something about the dress completely, and that may hinder the dress from being used by future generations. If you don't fit into the dress for one reason or another, and it won't work unless altered, you can choose to just use the veil instead of the entire dress. This at least allows you to carry on part of the tradition without touching the antique dress itself.

Don't worry if you don't have an old dress to work with. Many brides purchase their wedding dresses just for their wedding. Some (usually with bigger budgets) have them made by couturiers, while others buy them from wedding boutiques. These two options are usually quite pricey, however, with ready to wear dresses costing around $1000 to $5000 (depending on the designer) and made to order dresses costing even more, so be sure to weigh your different options and prices.

It's okay to splurge on your wedding dress if you want to, but if you're on a budget, you can employ the same trick you did to save money on bridesmaids dresses! Go to prom dress or ball dress stores, as these stores can be great places for finding budget wedding gowns! Make sure the stores you visit are relatively generic. Never step into the boutique or store of a relatively big fashion house because even their regular formal attire will be pricey.

There are some really nice prom dress designers worth looking into. Jessica McClintock is a good example. The Jessica McClintock boutiques usually have great white ball gowns or prom dresses for $300 or less! That's really cheap for a wedding dress! Also, the best time to buy dresses are usually after the month of May which is after prom season, so the dresses go on sale. You can also check out the sales online for prom dresses or formal dresses.

Many formal dresses or prom dresses come in white. Usually they are simple cut, elegant dresses with some embellishment or accent here and there. Though you may also find some intricate dresses or a few with big skirts. Finding one that fits you and looks great can mean thousands of dollars of savings on your part! Prom dresses and ball gowns cost thousands and hundreds of dollars less than a dress that has the label “wedding dress” on it. You are even likely find one that is only $100!

Finally, even if you're looking for budget wedding gowns, when you do find something, be sure your it fits you well. If you find something perfect, but is a little loose in some areas, remember that you can always get it altered to fit just right!
