Because fairytale and enchanted themes are really popular when it comes to themed weddings, a medieval wedding themes fits right into the picture of that time period. Many people have medieval weddings because they're fun and are very similar to the wedding format we presently have.
You can have your ceremony at any old stone church or at a grand church. Usually, grand churches were reserved for royalty, while tiny stone churches were for the peasant folk of medieval times. A grand church will cost more than a stone one, though, so you may want to go for an old stone type church.
At your reception, your wedding entertainment won't follow that of what is now considered a traditional wedding. You can hire a juggler, stand up comedian (court jester), and solo guitarist singer or a poet (court bard.) To match this, you can have simple but “rich” looking decorations like candelabras and dark rich tapestries lining various sections of the walls. These can be bought for very cheap at warehouse stores. Make the candelabras your centerpieces so that you hit two birds with one stone, and give these away as your entourage presents as well. You can cut up the fabrics later on and put it to use around your home!
The food for medieval weddings has to be meat, as was tradition back then. Steak or roasted beef alongside grilled vegetables with milk (to follow strict tradition) as the main drink! The hard drinks come after the meal. Other options for food include, venison, mutton, and quail! Your cake can be a very simple pound cake frosted in white.
Follow your theme all the way through by making sure you dress appropriately. Blue was the color for medieval brides, as this was their color of purity. You can probably find something appropriate at a costume store, which will cost much less than a regular wedding dress. You can complete the bridal look by weaving orange blossoms in your hair, which medieval ladies often wore down the aisle as a symbol of their virginity. Your entourage of bridesmaids can have various colored dresses like pink, yellow, and even black!
To complete the medieval tradition, give away tiny Celtic love knots, either as small bits of jewelry or as a bookmark. These will be appropriate, and a nice memorable touch to your medieval wedding. Finally, remember to prepare your guests for the theme by saying so or showing them in the wedding invitation. You can word the invitation in an appropriate manner, say starting with “Here Ye, Here Ye” or other cute touches.
