Planning a Color Themed Wedding

No wedding website would be complete unless a color themed wedding is discussed. Colors are a very traditional way of incorporating a theme to your wedding or giving it a unique twist. You can have a traditional wedding and simply infuse it with colors in order to give it your own personality. Often, brides choose a favorite color and work with that. Keep in mind, though, that colors are very easily worked into other themes, and so you can have always have different theme while still having your favorite colors.

Usually, with a colored theme wedding the facts and details of the wedding revolve around a specific color. That means the flowers are of that color, the table runners and decorations are of the color, the bridesmaids wear that color, the giveaways follow the color, and so on. It is actually a very simple and easy way to add some sort of theme to your wedding without going overboard or deviating too much from tradition.

Some brides choose colors based on their meaning or what they symbolize. For example:

  • Red – happiness, marriage, prosperity, confidence, courage, action
  • Pink – love, beauty, marriage, relaxation,
  • Orange – endurance, vitality, kinship, energy
  • Yellow – wisdom, joy, happiness, intelligence, blessing , optimism
  • Green – fertility, life, well-being, eternity, peace, family, harmony
  • Blue – peace, youth, vitality, wealth, trust
  • White – Purity,  marriage, children, cleanliness, mental clarity
  • Black – earth, stability, career, knowledge, authority , power
  • Gray – practicality, solidity, helpfulness, security, maturity
  • Brown – order, stability, approachability, reliability
  • Gold – wealth, wisdom, prosperity, strength

Other times, colors are chosen because they are favorites.

Most couples choose just one color and set it against white. Don't be afraid to mix colors, though! It can lead to a really nice effect. For example, you can have complementing colors like orange and yellow to make your wedding bright and happy, or you can have contrasting colors like brown and gold to make your wedding look classic and subtle but beautiful. A color themed wedding is a theme you can really play around with, so if it's what you want, don't hesitate!

If you choose a color that isn't often used, you may not want to dress your bridesmaids in that color. Black, for example, may make your  bridesmaids look somber. What you can do instead is give them different colored dresses with black accents. Maybe black gloves, black trimming, black shoes, etc.
