Princess Wedding Theme: Mermaid

Every little girl once dreamed of becoming a princess, and having the classic grand fairytale type wedding that goes with it. Luckily, with a princess weddings theme this old dream of childhood can now become a reality. No matter what the fairytale or children's story being followed, an enchanted or fairytale theme wedding can be pulled off easily.

Mermaid

A mermaid princess wedding theme can be similar to a beach wedding. Depending on how far you want to take your theme, consider having a paper mache arc shaped like the entryway of Triton's undersea palace. You and your spouse-to-be can stand under this arc during the ceremony. It will give an interesting effect, and set the mood of the entire wedding. Be sure to ask the person who will be officiating your wedding to try and add metaphors about the sea into their spiel, or add them to your vows!

The decorations of your reception venue are very important when trying to convey a fairytale theme. In this case, you will need a lot of blue crepe or fabric to give the area a blue hue and “underwater” type feel. Decorate each table with a light blue tablecloth and large seashells that have flowers coming out of them. You can have dark blue table napkins to set off the lightness of the tablecloth, and also to illustrate changing hues in the ocean.

Appropriately, the food served should be seafood! Try going for some stuffed squid or shrimp dish. A nice white fish which is pan fried and given a white wine sauce. You can serve white wine or champagne to go with all of this seafood, and the bubbles in the champagne go with your theme well! For your cake, decorate it with seashells.

Next, what to wear. Since it is a mermaid theme, the men can wear simple white shirts with either khaki or black pants. The groom can hold a trident (though probably not during the ceremony.) The bride can wear a simple white body fit gown with a fishtail skirt, or a skirt that flairs out at the bottom. The bridesmaids can wear similar dresses, but in different colors. Wearing an actual mermaid costume might look a bit strange to some (but if you really want to, then go for it!), but if you have fishtail dresses, you can pull it off without a problem!

Finally, play a lot of tropical inspired music or some soothing beach inspired music. Your giveaways can be any of the suggested giveaways in a previous article or little fish key chains. One couple who had a mermaid theme actually gave away pairs of goldfish in small bowl aquariums!
