The classic storybook princess always had the perfect wedding. She had the beautiful white dress, the prince in military attire, and the entire kingdom to celebrate with her. We're thinking Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White!
A classic princess would definitely have had their wedding ceremony and reception at a castle, which means a princess wedding theme would be perfect in a castle! Not sure where to look? There are several places that have castles which cater to weddings, such as Scotland and other parts of Europe. If you live in New York, you can look into Belvedere Castle in Central Park. However, if you're trying to save, you can have a simpler ceremony and just have a grand reception.
Your reception decorations should hopefully make your guests feel like they're stepping into a fairytale. If you can find a manor house or an old stone house, you can perhaps rent out their garden, and simply have the house as a backdrop. Decorate your garden tent with a lot of flowers and glittering pieces of paper everywhere. Think about 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and get your decoration ideas from there!
Princess wedding theme food can be similar to a medieval wedding, with rich meats and stews. Or you can also serve some continental or European dishes, depending where your chosen princess claims to be from. Be sure to serve wine, and there is really no need for other alcoholic drinks, since they didn't really have them in the time and society you're aiming for. Your cake will have to be a classic wedding cake with tiers and decorations of flowers.
Now, for the clothes. To have a proper princess wedding, you will need big puffy dresses coupled with long white gloves and tiaras. You can dress your bridesmaids in pastel colors, with the bride wearing white, of course. As customary in fairytales, the bride's dress will have a long train, and the bridesmaids will have to lift this train and walk behind her. The men can wear tuxes or old fashioned suits.
At the reception, you will have to play classical music. Whether it be live or from recordings, classical music, especially the waltz for the first dance, is in order. Finally, give away small jewelry boxes or small boxes of chocolate. Having a tiny box with something delightful inside is the perfect end to a fairytale wedding!
