Oktoberfest
Perhaps one of the most noted festivals in the world (especially for beer lovers) the Oktoberfest festival is absolutely one of a kind. Going well with a couple who would also like to have a heritage theme of German descent, Oktoberfest festival wedding themes can be a fantastic way to celebrate and have fun at your wedding!
The ceremony of the wedding can be like that of a traditional German wedding (see German Theme) and the Oktoberfest theme can come during the reception. Since the Oktoberfest is characterized by having drinking tents, you will have to try and give your guests the feel of being under a grand tent with rows of tables and many people drinking. You can choose to have more than one tent (for larger weddings) or one grand tent where all your guests can sit.
Decorating the tent will be easy. All you really need are a lot of lights on the sides (Christmas lights work well) and tables with white tablecloths on top. Decorations for the tables can be beer mugs or beer bottles glued or stuck together with a candle on top. There is no need to go all out on decorating. At Oktoberfest, it's all about the beer and good food, not about the surroundings.
Speaking of food, be sure to serve some German favorites like sausages, Zuricher, Pork Knuckles, meat fondu, etc. A lot of rich meaty foods will be in order, especially because you will be chugging down tons of beer! Like before, the wedding cake can be a rich stollen with white icing. This relatively heavy cake will be a great way to end a sumptuous meal!
Now, for the most important part of the Oktoberfest, the beer! Since you will be following this festival wedding theme, it is perfectly okay to have no other alcoholic beverage but beer. Those who don't want to drink can be served water or juice. Now, to get cheap beer, figure out if it's cheaper to buy beer by bottle or by can. Usually, bottles are cheaper because they can be returned to the warehouses for recycling.
Next, go to the distilleries themselves of buy your beer at an alcohol warehouse, which distributes alcoholic beverages to commercial or retail stores. You can choose to have one kind of beer or have several kinds, it's up to you. Just choose a beer you like and go with your cheapest possible option!
Make sure your music is fun and lively. With a festival like Oktoberfest where everyone drinks, loud and happy music is definitely in order. You can weave in the other German traditions into your wedding activities quite easily as they will serve as forms of entertainment for the crowd. Finally, for wedding favors, give away fridge magnets shaped like beer mugs. These can be ordered really cheap, and you can even put your names on the mug!
