Among the unique wedding themes out there, sports themed wedding is surprisingly popular. It is usually more of the groom's influence, with the bride simply not minding having a specific sport as the theme of her wedding. Sport themed weddings can actually be quite charming and entertaining at the same time, especially if the groom or bride is known to be passionate about the sport. It is one of the easier wedding themes to pull off, and can actually lead to a lot of savings on the couple's part.
Basketball
A basketball themed wedding is very easily planned. Both ceremony and reception can be on a rented basketball court. Renting out a professional team's court will be expensive, but a high school basketball court should be more reasonably priced. If you are of a certain religion, you can marry yourselves according to the dictates of your religion separately from your basketball wedding, that way, you are officially married in your religion, while still having your unique wedding theme.
The ceremony can take place at the foot of the court's bleachers, with your guests sitting on the bleacher seats during the ceremony itself. At the end of the ceremony, the groom can cut the basket off the hoop, as is basketball tradition for victory. The tables and chairs will be on the court already, with decorations following the colors of the bride or groom's favorite basketball theme. On the place setting of each guest, you can place small basketballs as your wedding favors.
Clothes for a basketball themed wedding are dependent on the couple. Some couples want to get married in a team jersey and cheerleader uniform, but others would like to stick to more traditional attire, simply incorporating the team colors into their clothes. Maybe the ties and bridesmaid dresses follow the colors of the favorite team.
Music for a basketball themed wedding is easily done. It's basically any music you would like to play at your wedding. This means you have the same choices of band, DJ, or classical instrumental group. What may be difficult to pull off is the food. Though the cake is easy to think of (have a basketball shaped cake made; it's cheaper than a wedding cake), where the caterer can set up and serve the food will be the tricky part. You may have to ask the school if you can use their cafeteria as well, or find a caterer that can set up a mini outdoor kitchen with burners and heaters so that your food is well prepared and still yummy for your guests!
